NEW DELHI, NOV 28 – At least one person died and 20 others fell ill after it is believed they inhaled poisonous gas at a pharmaceutical factory in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, according to officials yesterday.
The incident took place in Anakapalli in Visakhapatnam, the largest city in Andhra Pradesh.
According to officials, the staff inside the factory smelled a mixture of hydrochloric acid (HCL) and chloroform which is suspected to have fallen on the floor and caused them to have breathing problems.
Local media reported that the company’s management did not warn the workers involved in the cleaning work about the danger of inhaling the poisonous gas.
The police have opened an investigation paper and ordered further investigation into the incident. – Named
