Mandatory face masks for primary school children will be discussed by the National Public Health Emergency Team when it meets today.
In the last fortnight, a mammoth 10,000 cases of the virus were recorded in primary school children – making them the most infected age group.
Members of the keystone pandemic response group believe the new requirement on children could help curb the surge of Covid cases, according to reports.
However, it is not expected that NPHET will recommend any major changes to the Government this week.
Other items expected to be discussed by NPHET include, limits on the number of people allowed to sit at indoor hospitality tables, caps on household visits and a reduction in capacity at live events.
We will keep this blog updated with all the latest Covid news breaking today.
