EAC announces power cuts for maintenance work

The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) has announced that due to maintenance operations on part of the grid, it will be cutting power to certain areas on Wednesday and Thursday.

The scheduled power cuts will take place between 8am and 6pm on Wednesday, and between 8am and 4pm on Thursday.

The affected areas are: Xylotymbou, Achna forest, Ormidia, the livestock farming areas in Ormidia and Xylotymbou, the light industrial area in Xylotymbou, the SBA in Dhekelia, and the EAC refugee housing settlement in Dhekelia.

Power cuts to those areas are necessary due to maintenance and upgrade works on equipment supplying power to the Dhekelia desalination plan and medium-voltage equipment at the Dhekelia electricity substation.

According to the EAC, because it is not certain that the actual power cuts will last for the entire scheduled duration, consumers should assume that their electrical devices are ‘live’ during the times in question.

The EAC apologised for any inconvenience to the public, adding that the maintenance work was necessary.
