Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has questioned how Aston Villa lost their FA Cup clash to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday night.

Villa had two goals disallowed by Video Assistant Referee technology, with the decision to chalk off the first of those coming under immense criticism because it took nearly four minutes for a decision to be made.

United midfielder Scott McTominay put his side ahead after eight minutes with a header but Billa dominated thereafter with 57 per cent possession and coming close through Ollie Watkins, who hit the crossbar, and Matty Cash who forced a good save from David De Gea.

Villa fans were furious at the decision to disallow the first of the two goals, scored by Danny Ings, because of an apparent foul by Jacob Ramsey in the build-up.

Jordan, a popular pundit for talkSPORT, took to social media to have his say on the game and Villa’s performance and praised Steven Gerrard‘s side while criticising United winger Marcus Rashford.

“How are Villa losing this game?” he asked, agreeing with fans of Gerrard’s side who fumed at being on the end of defeat.

“By the way, United are very poor and Rashford is a mile off on quality and attitude.”

The VAR controversy was a hot topic during and after the game with BBC pundit Alan Shearer questioning why the technology was even in operation with some FA Cup matches not being held at Premier League grounds this weekend unable to use it.

“Villa will look back on this game with regret,” Shearer said on the BBC’s coverage of the game.

“When they look at the number of chances they had, they should have scored.

“They’ve done enough to at least get to extra time. Man United, all I can say is they’re through. It wasn’t a good performance. Poor again, I thought, and second best for large parts of that second half.”
