BUENOS AIRES, NOV 8 – Three people have been charged in connection with the death of Liam Payne, the former One Direction member who died after falling from the balcony of his hotel room in Buenos Aires last month, Argentine prosecutors said yesterday.
Prosecutor Andrés Madrea charged the three undisclosed suspects with charges of ‘leaving a person to death’ and ‘supplying and facilitating the use of narcotics,’
Madrea also asked the judge to rule that the three cannot leave the country.
Payne fell from the balcony of his room on the third floor of his hotel in the upscale neighborhood of Palermo, in the Argentine capital. An autopsy said he died of multiple injuries and external bleeding.
Prosecutors also said that Payne’s toxicology tests showed that her body had, “permissible traces of alcohol, cocaine and antidepressants” in the moments before her death.
Investigators also said that he was alone when he fell. But the prosecutor’s office said yesterday that one of the accused was often with the singer while in Buenos Aires. The second suspect is a hotel employee who allegedly gave Payne cocaine between October 13 and 16. The third suspect is a drug dealer. –
The charges in Payne’s case have little in common with the star’s death case Friends Matthew Perry a year ago. The actor’s personal assistant and a longtime friend were among those who allegedly helped supply him with ketamine in the final months of his life, leading to an overdose of the anesthetic.
