BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, NOV 20 – A total of 50 students and teachers participated in the School Level Disaster Risk Management Program (SBDRM) which lasted for two days at Pengiran Anak Puteri Besar Primary School, Sungai Kebun, Brunei and Muara District.
The program held from 19 to 20 November was organized by the National Disaster Management Center (NDMC), Ministry of Home Affairs (KHEDN) in collaboration with the Department of Schools, Ministry of Education.
The participants of the program consisted of students and teachers from Saba Darat Primary School, Sungai Siamas Primary School, Pehin Dato Jamil Primary School, Bendahara Lama Primary School, Haji Tarif Primary School, Pintu Malim Primary School and Pengiran Anak Puteri Besar Primary School, Sungai Kebun.
In connection with that, the closing ceremony and presentation of certificates for program participants was held at Pengiran Anak Puteri Besar Primary School, Sungai Kebun, today.
Present as guest of honor and completing the presentation of certificates and appreciation to the participants and facilitators of the program was the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Safety and Welfare) at KHEDN, Dayang Nor Hamidah binti Haji Hamidon.
Throughout the program, the students and teachers had the opportunity to learn about the functions and roles of NDMC in addition to improving their knowledge and preparedness in identifying risks and making the right actions to always be prepared in the face of any disaster.
Apart from that, the students also have the opportunity to participate in group exercises such as activities Do’s and Don’ts before, during and after a disaster, Nature PowerPreparation Grab Bag, Hazard Visit and form an action plan in the preparedness of school citizens to face disasters at the school level.
NDMC will always cooperate with interested agencies in dealing with disasters in the country. The SBDRM program has been implemented to achieve the goal of building a society that is resilient in the face of any disaster challenges that may occur.
With the knowledge and experience gained during the SBDRM program, it is hoped that it will be able to be used as a guide to reduce the impact of disasters on schoolchildren in this country.
