600 students to participate in ‘Manufacturing Day’ at Great Lakes Science Center

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Northeast Ohio students will have the chance to not only learn about the manufacturing industry, but also gain mentorship.

The fourth annual “Manufacturing Day” will bring more than 600 middle school and high school students to the Great Lakes Science Center on Oct. 7.

The students will represent 28 schools throughout the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, along with Berea-Midpark, Brooklyn, Cleveland Heights, Euclid, Garfield Heights, Kent, Oberlin among others, the Science Center said in a news release.

During the event, which is presented by Rockwell Automation, an industrial automation and information company, students will be able to participate in interactive sessions where industry professionals will provide insights on their careers, hands-on activities and a manufacturing career expo.

The goals is to provide exposure to future career possibilities in manufacturing for area students.

Some of the manufacturing and technology companies, and education partners that will be available to students include Cuyahoga Community College, Baldwin-Wallace University, Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network, Women in Manufacturing, Applied Industrial Technologies and more, the release said.

Marzell Brown, a digital transformation manager and member of the Science Center’s board of directors, said in a statement that “Manufacturing Day” is “a way to celebrate, educate and demystify how technology impacts the way things get made.”

“Students will come away with an understanding of the many ways a career in manufacturing is possible,” he added.

The Science Center will be closed to the general public during the event.
