EduTALK discusses the main issues of education

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 26 SEPT – In the last 20 years, teaching has witnessed a significant change from the limited use of technology to the widespread use of digital equipment, online resources and learning management systems.

From a standard curriculum that has a strong focus on memorization to a curriculum that emphasizes critical thinking and skill-based learning where all of that leads to expectations for excellent performance and student success.

With increasing demands, some of us become less enthusiastic and from time to time, have to take time to listen to the inspiration that can ignite our passion and stimulate our teaching.

The matter was stated by the Permanent Secretary (Core Education), Ministry of Education, Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin in a speech at the Special EduTALK Opening Ceremony in conjunction with the 34th Teacher’s Day Celebration, 2024 which took place at Dewan Indah Biru, Kampung Lugu, today.

A total of 875 government school teachers under the control of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Religious Affairs attended the opening ceremony.

The Special EduTALK held from today until October 1 was attended by 6,341 teachers from all over the country, where it will be an important platform to discuss key issues in education.

At the occasion, the keynote speech entitled, Interaction of Well-Being, Motivation and Pedagogy for Student Success: Special EduTALK was delivered by Associate Professor Ng Pak Tee from the Institute of Education, Nanyang University, Singapore where he emphasized the issues of teacher well-being, mental health and strategies for motivate teachers to improve student learning outcomes.

Associate Professor Ng Pak Tee also stated that in today’s rapidly changing education landscape, teachers are at the forefront of shaping students’ thinking and future.

But they also face challenges that can erode their well-being and mental health. Therefore, through the keynote speech, he also delved into the complicated relationship between well-being, motivation and effective pedagogy of teachers by highlighting how these elements are very important in fostering student success.

The ceremony continued with an open dialogue session Learning Circle with Associate Professor Ng Pak Tee where the participants shared experiences, exchanged ideas with each other and together produced innovative solutions.

The activity is intended to encourage collaborative learning and professional development among educators.

Special EduTALK aims to engage educators, policy makers and stakeholders in a dialogue session on the importance of well-being and motivation in pedagogical practice.
