Miss Manners: Women have muscles too

DEAR MISS MANNERS: I am a woman who works at a home repair store, where I routinely help customers load heavy merchandise into their vehicles. I am a small woman who is strong for her size. A lot of times, customers are surprised to see this, but most people let me do my job. Once in a while, I’ll get somebody who doesn’t approve. One woman told me she was disappointed that the store sent a woman to help her. She continued on and on about how disappointed she was. I try to ignore these comments and keep things light and friendly, as I am at work, but I’d love to point out how rude they are. Is there an appropriate way to do that?

GENTLE READER: “I’m used to being underestimated.”
