City works to get driver's licenses reinstated for some Wichitans

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The City of Wichita announced a new program to help residents get their driver’s licenses back after suspension.

The program is called the Wichita Area Restoration Program (WARP), and it offers the following:

  1. Court clerical staff will pull a resident’s public driving record and highlight the
    barrier to reinstatement
  2. If there are suspensions in Wichita Municipal Court or Sedgwick County Traffic
Court and the driver has a manifest hardship, staff will assist the resident in
filing a fee, fine, and cost forgiveness motion. If the suspensions are in Wichita
Municipal Court, staff will file the motion immediately upon completion. If the
motion is in Sedgwick County Traffic Court, the motion will need to be filed Pro
    Se by the driver.
  3. Staff members will also help residents file applications for hardship licenses.

The City says most suspensions involve driving without insurance, having too many traffic violations, or driving under the influence.

Court staff cannot offer legal services or advice but will provide information and clerical
assistance. The service is ideal for simple cases and more complicated cases may require legal assistance.

Interested residents may seek help by visiting the WARP office between 8:30 a.m. –
noon and 1-4 p.m., Monday through Friday, inside City Hall, 455 N. Main. To learn more about WARP, click here.
