WOLVERHAMPTON, SEPT 29 – Mohamed Salah took Liverpool to the top of the English Premier League when the Egyptian star’s penalty kick confirmed a 2-1 victory over struggling Wolves yesterday.
Salah scored in the second half after Rayan Ait Nouri equalized, following Ibrahima Konate’s opener for Liverpool.
Arne Slot’s side have won five of their six league games this season and are one point ahead of second-placed Manchester City, who drew 1-1 at Newcastle the previous game.
Slot insisted this week that Liverpool have yet to prove themselves as title contenders, but the Dutch manager has made a strong impression at the start of the post-Jurgen Klopp era at Anfield.
Since the shock defeat at home to Nottingham Forest, The Reds have made it four wins in a row in all competitions.
Liverpool fans who filled one section of the Molineux side chanted Slot’s name loudly as the final minutes ticked away in their latest victory.
The 46-year-old manager has masterminded one of the best starts in Liverpool’s managerial history. If they continue this pace, it will be difficult for the Slots themselves to deny their credibility as championship contenders. – AFP
