We’re starting with another chilly morning across Kansas thanks to clear skies and light winds overnight. Temperatures are mainly in the lower to middle 40s across the Sunflower State early this morning with no areas of frost like we had Saturday morning in northwestern areas.
We remain under the influence of Canadian high pressure. The center of the high has pushed far enough to our east that we are seeing the return of a warmer southerly flow of air.
So following jacket weather early today, the combination of abundant sunshine and a southerly breeze will help to boost our afternoon highs well into the 70s with some spots in western Kansas making it up to around 80 degrees.
Southerly winds will continue to increase tonight keeping temperatures much milder. There will be more mid and high-level clouds increasing as warmer air enters the region.
Summerlike temperatures are forecast for Monday as southerly winds become strong and gusty. Some gust will be from 40-50 mph in the afternoon.
Grassland fire danger will increase on Monday as strong winds and warm temperatures combine with sunshine and dry surface conditions.
We are on record high watch for Monday afternoon as well.
Fire danger will remain elevated on Tuesday as well with continued gusty winds and warm and dry conditions. Later Tuesday night and Wednesday, showers and a few thunderstorms can bring some much-needed rainfall, mainly to central and eastern Kansas.
Cooler temperatures will follow the front with mainly quiet conditions late this week. A major pattern change will bring the chance for more rain by next weekend.
