As the political parties in Ondo State continue their campaign ahead of the state governorship election in November, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has promised, that if elected, his administration would continue to boost agriculture and food security in the state.
The governor also noted that he doesn’t tamper with the allocations of Local Government Areas in the state.
As the Supreme Court had granted financial autonomy to the LGs in the country, LG elections in Ondo State will be held on January 18, 2025.
Speaking during his campaign visit to the Ondo East Local Government Area of the state, on Saturday, the governor told the people of his readiness to encourage community development, adding that his administration has no plan to tamper with the LG funds.
He promised, “We will continue to deliver the dividends of democracy to the good people of Ondo State. This has become possible because I don’t mess with the allocations of local governments.
“Our traditional rulers now get what they are entitled to and we have corrected the errors of the past by promoting the overall development of the local government areas. Our administration has been focusing more attention on enhancing agriculture and promoting food security in the state. These, we will continue when we are elected on November 16.”
At his palace, the traditional ruler of the Epe Community in the Ondo East LG, Isaac Oyebade, while welcoming the governor, appealed to the state government to upgrade the ancient town.
“Historically, Epe is an ancient town that was home to all Ekimogun-speaking people today, including Idanre and Ile-oluji. The town cannot be left out of the scheme of things. So, if other towns are upgraded, Epe should not be left out,” he pleaded.
Earlier, the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Mr Olamide Oládiji, assured that the people of the LG would vote for the governor.
