The FAST way to deal with a stroke patient

The FAST way to deal with a stroke patient

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Tuesday is World Stroke Day, a chance to raise awareness about what to do if you think someone is having a stroke.

Acting “FAST” is vital, and that word is the key to getting help.

FAST stands for:
F – Facial drooping
A – Arm weakness
S – Slurred speech
T – Time to get medical care quickly

“What we want people to know is that strokes can happen to anyone at any age. There’s not a, you know, mystery age that anyone can have a stroke,” said Heathe Smart, American Heart Association, Wichita, senior development director.

Research shows one in four adults over 25 will have a stroke at some point in their lives, but it can be treated if they get help right away.
