We have a weather aware day ahead. Strong to severe storms will be possible today, mainly later this afternoon and evening. All forms of severe weather are on the table, including a tornado.
A cold front is what will spark storms and has already started to bring some rain to the western half of the area. There will also be a big temperature change too.
Showers and a few storms will be around through the rest of the morning. Into the afternoon is when we will begin to see more storms develop and intensify in Central Kansas.
As storms track to the east they will need to be monitored closely. There will likely be some warnings into the evening. Our easternmost counties should be in the clear after midnight as the cold front continues to push storms east and outside of the area.
Our temperatures this morning will be similar to the highs that are expected today due to the cold front. They will range from the 40s to the 70s.
There will still be a strong breeze too. The strongest gusts up to 35 to 40 mph will be in Southwest and South Central Kansas.
A Wind Advisory remains in effect until 7am for a few of our counties to the northeast.
Since we are expecting rainfall and wind speeds will gradually decrease, there are also not as many Fire Weather Warnings. The greatest risk of grassfires will be in Northwestern Oklahoma.
As winds switch out of the northwest, temperatures will drop even more tonight. Some spots to the west will dip below freezing.
This is why a Freeze Warning will be in effect late tonight into Thursday morning.
Once temperatures cool down tomorrow they will stay fall-like for a while. Trick-or-treaters will want to have an extra layer underneath their costumes. The first few days of November will be damp and stormy.
