SIBU, 30 OCT – The Magistrate’s Court here today granted a six-day remand application against a 44-year-old man to assist in the investigation of the child dumping case yesterday.
Magistrate Oon Kork Chern also ordered the man, who is also a suspect in the case, to be brought back to court on November 5.
Sibu District Police Chief ACP, Zulkipli Suhaili in a statement said the man involved along with a 14-year-old teenage girl were arrested to assist in the investigation related to the discovery of a boy’s clothes in a barrel in Jalan Tong Sang yesterday morning.
He said the damit’s child, who was found in a weak state by members of the public at about 8:30 am, is suspected to have been born within less than 24 hours, is now being treated at Sibu Hospital and is reported to be in a stable condition.
“The case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for concealing a birth with the intention of abandoning a child, which provides for a prison sentence of up to two years, a fine or both, if convicted,” he said. – Named
