Retired Wichita Fire Department accelerant detection K-9 dies

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Wichita Fire Department announced Wednesday that Sporty, a retired WFD accelerant detection K-9, died.

The WFD says the dog was officially known as City Hall’s 11th-floor guard dog and served the community from 2010 to 2015.

Sporty lived with her handler, retired Fire Marshal Stuart Bevis. The WFD says she became accustomed to eating out of a bowl, relaxed with her partner-in-crime Basil, and still searched for every ounce of bacon that entered the home. The department says Sporty would have been 16 years old in December.
