CLEVELAND, Ohio — Newly eligible 18-year-old voters spilled out of the ornate double doors of Trinity Cathedral Episcopal Church downtown Tuesday, celebrating as they began their march to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections to cast their first votes in the 2024 election.
The Cleveland Metropolitan School District and Greater Cleveland Congregations partnered on the “Steppin’ and Rollin’ to the Polls” event, where over 100 students voted.
The CMSD students experienced a live lesson on political civic engagement after making their way through the long voting line and learning how the process works, from registering for their ballot to feeding their choices through the ballot-counting machines.
CMSD and GCC staff and faculty cheered on the students, wearing their “I Voted” stickers on their shirts, as they completed the voting process and left the Board of Elections building.
Election Day is Tuesday.
