BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 31 OCT – People who use prepaid mobile phone services are required to re-register their prepaid SIM cards with their respective service providers which will be implemented from 2 January until 31 December 2025.

In order to achieve this objective, the Brunei Darussalam Info-Communications Technology Industry Authority (AITI) with the cooperation and support of Unified National Networks Sdn Bhd (UNN), Datastream Digital Sdn Bhd (DST), Progresif Sdn Bhd (Progressive) and imagine Sdn Bhd ( imagine) will implement the pre-paid SIM card re-registration program for mobile phones in stages according to the order to be determined, where the service providers will inform their respective customers about the re-registration period via SMS notification.

According to a joint statement, the re-registration is one of efforts to improve security measures and curb the increase in illegal activities and fraud carried out through calls and short message systems (SMS) in the country.

Prepaid SIM card customers are advised to complete their registration within the specified time period to ensure that the service is not affected and to avoid any inconvenience.

This re-registration process can be carried out physically by presenting oneself to the respective service provider branches or to public places determined by the service providers.

DST prepaid mobile phone customers who registered before 1 November 2024 are required to undergo a re-registration process where this re-registration process can be carried out entirely through the online platform provided by DST.

Meanwhile, Progresif and Imagine prepaid mobile phone customers who registered before 2 January 2025 are required to undergo a re-registration process through the online platform provided by their respective service providers.

To complete the re-registration process, Progresif and Imagine customers still need to present themselves for physical verification at the relevant service provider branches.

Accurate and up-to-date user records are vital in law enforcement’s ongoing efforts to prevent misuse of SIM card registrations that can be used for illegal activities, fraud and the spread of false information.

Detailed information for this re-registration can be found on the website of AITI and the relevant service providers or their respective lines which are line 151 for DST, line 111 for imagine and Progressive 177.

Accordingly, AITI would like to advise the public to be responsible for SIM cards registered in their respective names.

The public is also reminded not to hand over, lend, rent or sell mobile phone SIM cards to others, to avoid misuse of the SIM card.

As for the change of SIM card ownership, the public is advised to re-register the SIM card with the relevant telecommunications service provider.
