BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 31 OCT – As a leader in ensuring the well-being and involvement of the elderly in contributing to national development, the Community Development Department (JAPEM) in collaboration with the Brunei Medical Student Association (BMSA) has organized a Senior Appreciation Ceremony to celebrate the winners of the virtual running event through BruHealth app and bowling competition Strikes for Gold.
The ceremony was held this afternoon at the Jerudong Sports Complex, in conjunction with the International Day of the Elderly 2024 (HAWE2024),
Present to present the prizes to the winners was the Acting Director of JAPEM, Dayangku Siti Saihalina binti Pengiran Haji Mohd Daud.
The ceremony started with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and a welcome speech from the Acting Deputy Director of JAPEM, Dayang Nurul Nazurah binti Jaya and a speech from BMSA representative, BMSA Secretary General, Eshyn Kon.
Then the ceremony continued with the presentation of prizes to the top 10 winners for the Run The Golden Milestones: Running Through the Golden Years namely Chin Yuk Fatt Micheal Chin, Dayang Norhasinah @ Suraya binti Abdul Rahman, Hajah Hirma Osnita binti Haji Matassan, Dayang Masraimi bin Masri, Dayang Iqa Rasimah binti Mohd Raseid, Dayang Norherman bin Mohd Nor, Awang Khairin bin Jefri, Dayang Norazalina binti Haji Suhaili , Awang Muhammad Redzuan bin Haji Yusof and Awang Muhammad Akmalhayat bin Osman.
The run started on September 2 to September 29, which was organized by BMSA youth. While for the bowling competition Strikes for Gold which was held last October 8, a total of 10 teams consisting of senior members of the Senior Citizens Activity Center (PKWE) and the Senior Citizens Association (PW) participated in the competition.
The championship for the men’s team category was won by PW, while Brunei and Muara District PKWE and Belait District PKWE took second and third place respectively.
For the female category, PW once again emerged as the champion followed by PKWE Brunei and Muara District in second place and PKWE Temburong District in third place. Each received a medal and a certificate of participation.
Appreciation was also given to Pengiran Haji Omarali bin Pengiran Haji Damit and Dayang Siti Norbaya binti Haji Nawi as the Best Male and Female Players, each receiving a trophy and certificate.
The ceremony also continued with the submission of BMSA’s contribution of $1,229 for the PKWE Fund.
Also present were senior officers from JAPEM, members of BMSA and members of PKWE throughout the country; P.W.; non-governmental associations and JAPEM’s strategic partners.
