Mayfield Village Parks and Rec name winners of annual Halloween Window Painting Contest

MAYFIELD, Ohio — Carrying on a tradition that has lasted approximately 25 years, local students in grades 6-8 painted Halloween artwork on the windows of businesses, vying for prizes and giving the community just the right look for the time of year.

This year, 21 storefront windows in Mayfield Village and Mayfield Heights were decorated as part of the Mayfield Village Parks and Recreation’s annual Halloween Window Painting Contest.

The contest is open to students in the Mayfield School District, as well students from St. Paschal Baylon School, St. Francis of Assisi School, and Mayfield Middle School. In all, 49 students painted spooky scenes in October.

The contest was scheduled to start Oct. 4, however, with the colder temperatures and abundant rain that fell in the beginning of the month, most artists chose to paint their windows closer to the Oct. 22 deadline.

The Mayfield Village Parks and Recreation Department has recognized the following contest winners:

First place: The department noted that, because of this year’s extraordinary talent, there was a tie for first place.

Charley’s Cheesesteaks & Wings, 1278-1280 S.O.M. Center Road, hosted one of the winning teams, consisting of Brigitte Neuhoff, Ellie Baco and Emmy Herberth, who painted a pumpkin and ghost cartoon.

Gabby Moisio, Elle Bauman and Gia Soriano also received first place honors for their painting of Sam from “Trik ‘r Treat” on Jersey Mike’s window, 6681 Wilson Mills Road.

“Both of these paintings from St. Paschal students showcased great detail, depth, originality and appeal,” the parks and recreation department stated.
