BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, NOV 6 – Awang Hariz Hasif bin Mohd Halfiq, Year 4 student of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Primary School (SR YSHHB) was announced as the champion in the chess competition for Year 4 students of the school.
The competition witnessed the participation of 38 participants, 35 men and three women who took up the challenge to showcase their thinking skills.
Taking second and third place in the competition were Awang Muhammad Naufal Arsyad and Awang Mohd Ammar Faris Irsyad, who also showed off their skills in playing chess.
The competition is part of the activities of the final year of school which, among other things, aims to foster competitiveness, sportsmanship and cognitive development among young students.
Among other things, the main objective of the competition organized by the Year 4 teachers of the school and the Brunei Chess Association is to encourage the development of critical cognitive skills such as strategizing, problem solving, and critical thinking, in addition to fostering the important values of sportsmanship and fair play.
With the success achieved in the competition, the school hopes to continue organizing chess competitions on a larger scale in the future to encourage more students to explore the world of chess.
In addition, it can further strengthen the school’s commitment to promote intellectual growth and healthy competition among students.
Also present, the Principal of SR YSHHB, Hajah Mariam binti Haji Ladi as well as teachers and members of the Brunei Chess Association.
