WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Starting Thursday, one of the parking lots at Wichita Eisenhower National Airport will have a new name. The Economy Lot will become the Surface Lot.
Airport officials say they got customer feedback, which indicated that the name Economy Lot implied it was the airport’s most affordable parking option.
It is not, at least if you need to park for a day or several days. The cheapest daily rate is the Park & Ride Lot, at $8, while the Economy Lot, soon to be the Surface Lot, has a daily maximum rate of $14.
If you park at the newly-named Surface Lot, you may still get a ticket that says Economy Lot. The airport will continue to use those tickets until they are used up.
The Park & Ride Lot is farther from the airport terminal but is serviced by a free shuttle. The shuttle makes stops around the parking lot every 15 minutes and operates every day from 3 a.m. until the final flight arrives. It takes the shuttle about four to six minutes to travel between the lot and the terminal.
Travelers needing transportation outside these hours can call the parking office at 316-946-4772.
There is a free parking option for people waiting to pick up someone from a flight. The Cell Phone Lot is relatively close to the terminal. Park there and wait for the person you are picking up to call you and tell you they are at the terminal curb and ready to be picked up.
