Van Nistelrooy has not been in contact with Amorim

LONDON, NOV 7 – Interim Manchester United boss Ruud van Nistelrooy says he has yet to speak to new manager Ruben Amorim about his future at the club as he looks to kick off the Europa League campaign.

Van Nistelrooy, placed under temporary charge at Old Trafford after Erik ten Hag was sacked last week, has secured two wins against Leicester and Chelsea.

United, who face Greek side PAOK tomorrow, have however made a poor start in Europe in all three of their games so far.

Van Nistelrooy was asked yesterday if he had spoken to Sporting manager Amorim, who had a 4-1 win over Manchester City last Tuesday.

“No, I have not been in contact with him so far, nothing has changed,” he said, adding that he did not know when he would speak to the Portuguese manager, who will take over at United on November 11.

The Dutchman has previously expressed his desire to stay at Old Trafford but he says he is unsure about his own future.

“It is difficult to comment on the matter now, I am waiting for the discussion,” he said at his pre-match press conference.

“In the meantime, there is clearly one thing that is most important for this football club now, which is to complete the work every day and in the match that will come tomorrow in Europe.

“It’s a European night at Old Trafford against the Greek champions, currently second in the league. To be honest I have to say that I feel responsible to play well next week and that is my job. I focus on that.

I welcome Ruben, I’m happy to help him and that’s the situation for now,” he said.

Meanwhile, defender Leny Yoro joined team training yesterday for the first time in three months as he gradually recovers from a leg injury.

The 18-year-old has not made an appearance since joining United from Lille in July for a fee that could rise to 70 million euros but he is injured and needs surgery.

“He’s managed really well after the injury in pre-season, obviously it’s going to be a long time and it’s a big moment for him,” Van Nistelrooy said. – AFP
