Turning damp tonight, wintry weather continues northwest

Moisture continues to be confined to Western Kansas. Most of the rain is to the southwest with some snow and a wintry mix most likely occurring to the northwest.

Turning damp tonight, wintry weather continues northwest

Temperatures are closest to freezing this morning in Northwest Kansas and Southwest Nebraska. Everyone in Central Kansas is chilly in the 40s but at least the commute will not be impacted by active weather.

A Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect until 6am and a Winter Storm Warning will be in effect to the northwest. While some rain to the southwest will slow down travel, travel to the northwest will be slick with a few more inches of snow being possible in Sherman County by the end of the day.

As we transition from the morning to the afternoon, most of the moisture to the west will be in the form of rain. There could still be some wintry weather around the Kansas/Colorado line to the northwest.

Temperatures will be coldest to the northwest. Most of us will still need a jacket during the warmest part of the afternoon.

Rain chances start to go up in Central Kansas during the evening. Rainfall becomes widespread after dark.

Even though Sherman County’s Winter Storm Warning is set to expire at 6pm, there will still be moisture with overnight lows dropping to around freezing. There could still be some wintry weather in extreme Northwest Kansas during the night.

Friday will be damp. Most of the precipitation will be in the form of rain. Embedded in the rainfall will be some thunderstorms but severe weather is not expected.

Rain starts to lift away from us through Friday night. A leftover shower will be around to the north and east early Saturday but the rest of the day will be drier.

Temperatures turn milder once we dry out. There may be another system that sweeps through the area around the middle of next week but it will be quick and amounts of moisture will not be as significant as what we have recently seen.
