A slow-moving and moisture-rich system is on deck. Scattered showers and a few rumbles will track mainly through western Kansas this evening.
The column of air will warm. We will see more rain as opposed to snow around the Goodland area for today. Rain will nudge into the Wichita area by 10 PM Thursday.
Moisture will spread farther to the northeast overnight and through Friday.
Rainfall at times will be heavy.
No flood watch is currently in effect for us but trends will be monitored with a good area of 1″ to 3″ of rain expected. Â
Highest rainfall accumulations through Saturday morning will be west of the Flint Hills. There may also be a maximum area of 3″ to 5″ of rain closer to the Oklahoma state line, southwest of Wichita.
This system will bring a great rain to Cheney Reservoir and its watershed! Â The dry slot of the system will eliminate rain on Saturday except for the backside of this low-pressure system over northern Kansas. Â
The Goodland area may see a brief change back to a wintry mix and snow early Saturday before exiting. Colorado will continue to get heavy snowfall located on the colder side. This is great news for their drought, too!
Temperatures will be chilly with falling rain on Friday. Temperatures start in the 20s and 30s to the northwest with 40s for Wichita.
Count on highs in the 40s and lower 50s.  It will be a struggle to warm much at all. Â
Once we bust into sunshine Saturday afternoon, we should see a spike in warmth. Â Sunday will be a beautiful and mild day with the 60s building in through early next week. Â
Another cold front is pegged for the Plains next Tuesday into Wednesday. This will pop more rain. The cooldown behind this frontal passage is only a small degree before temperatures warm late next week.
