Pro-Palestinian banner by PSG questioned

ISTANBUL, NOV 8 – France yesterday demanded an explanation from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), the country’s leading football club, following the display of pro-Palestinian banners deemed ‘unacceptable’ by supporters during matches, the Agency reported. Anatolia (AA).

“I ask PSG to give an explanation and the clubs to ensure that politics does not spoil sport, which should be a source of unification.

This banner should not be in the stadium, and this kind of message is also prohibited by League and UEFA regulations,” said Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau in a statement at X.

Retailleau said if similar incidents happen again, the government may have to consider banning banners for clubs that fail to enforce the rules.

PSG supporters display a banner in solidarity with Palestine during Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League match against Atletico Madrid.

Supporters held up a large banner reading Free Palestine in English, and a small banner written Battle on the field but peace in the world in French before the match kicks off at the Parc des Princes Stadium.

The large banner also displayed images of the Dome of the Rock Mosque in Jerusalem as well as the flags of Palestine and Lebanon. – Named
