What to expect from the announcements

What to expect from the announcements

From Sabrina Carpenter to Chappell Roan, female artists behind some of this year’s biggest hits are poised for industrywide recognition Friday as the Recording Academy announces its nominees for the 67th Grammy Awards.

Carpenter and Roan are favored for nominations in the best new artist category. Each has achieved major breakthroughs this year, drawing huge festival crowds and inching up various Billboard charts.

Two of the industry’s most prolific artists — Taylor Swift and Beyoncé — are expected to snag nominations this year again. Swift, who broke the record for most wins for album of the year, released her 11th studio album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” in April and is wrapping up her massive Eras Tour in December.

Beyoncé is likely to extend her record as the most nominated artist of all time. She also could be nominated in the best country album category after she was shut out of the Country Music Awards this year. Post Malone, who released his first country album this year, could also get nods in the country music categories.

Fans also expect nominations in the album of the year and pop genre categories for Charli XCX, whose album “Brat” inspired some of the biggest trends of the year.

In the rap genre, Kendrick Lamar could get a nod for his hit diss track against Drake“Not Like Us,” which was one of the top songs of the summer.

Members of the Recording Academy finished first-round voting in mid-October to determine the nominees. This year, the academy said in a news release that it introduced several key updates to its awards process, including adjusting eligibility criteria and renaming categories.

The show will also debut its Harry Belafonte Best Song for Social Change Award, which was recently renamed and recategorized to honor Belafonte, late calypso star and civil rights champion.

The Grammy Awards will air Feb. 2 on CBS. Here is a list of the categories expected to be announced at 10:45 am ET Friday.
