NARATHIWAT, NOV 8 – Thai police are hunting four suspects suspected of being involved in the brutal murder of the mayor of Rueso, Vichet Thaithongnun at a factory in Rueso Town, Narathiwat, southern Thailand yesterday.
Region 9 Police Chief, Major General of Police Piyawat Chalermsi said Vichet, 55, was attacked by four men disguised as women wearing black robes at a factory in Rueso Town.
“Closed circuit camera (CCTV) footage shows that four suspects dressed in black robes and armed with M16s stormed the meeting room of the factory and fired at Vichet.
“The suspect then fled on two motorcycles,” he said.
Piyawat said the suspect only fired at Vichet and did not injure the other three officers who were in the meeting room.
He said the police also found 19 M16 bullet casings at the scene.
According to him, the police are now intensifying efforts to identify the identity of the suspect and the motive for the brutal murder.
He did not rule out the possibility that the motive for the killing was related to security issues, business conflicts, local political problems, or personal problems.
Vichet is the mayor of Rueso for a second term and his tenure is expected to end in March next year.
He was also appointed as the President of the Narathiwat Sports Association, three days before the incident. – Named
