Malaysia’s population growth is slow | Gem Media Online

PUTRAJAYA, 14 NOV – Malaysia’s population in the third quarter of 2024 is estimated to be 34.1 million compared to the third quarter of 2023 which is 33.6 million with a slower growth of 1.6 percent compared to 2.1 percent.

In a statement today, the Chief Statistician, Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the slower growth was in line with the decline in the number of births.

He said the total population consisted of 30.7 million or 90 percent citizens and 3.4 million or 10 percent non-citizens.

Mohd Uzir said the male population increased to 17.9 million from 17.6 million in the third quarter of 2023 and the female population increased to 16.2 million from 16 million in the same period.

“The gender ratio of the entire population is 111 males for every 100 females while the gender ratio for citizens is 103 males for every 100 females,” he said.

Mohd Uzir said the young population (0-14 years old) remained unchanged at 7.6 million or 22.2 percent while the composition of the working age population (15-64 years old) and the elderly population (65 years old and over) each increased from 23.5 million ( 70 percent) and 2.5 million (7.5 percent) to 23.9 million (70.2 percent) and 2.6 million (7.7 percent). – Named
