Four faults were detected in Standby Ops

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, NOV 14 – Four offenses were successfully detected by officers from the Law Enforcement Division (BPU), Department of Labor while conducting Standby Operation 249/2024 on November 4.

According to a statement issued by the Labor Department, an inspection was carried out for the activities of selling various animal necessities in the Kampung Kiarong area and found offenses under the Employment Order 2009 committed by employers to local workers and foreign workers, which is Chapter 44 making unauthorized deductions of workers’ wages, Chapter 39 fails to pay the employee overtime wages, Chapter 65 works beyond the prescribed working hours and Chapter 72 Fails to provide sick leave certified by a medical practitioner.

For the offense of breaching the Employment Order 2009, if found, the employer may be subject to a compound fine of not more than $1,000 for the offence. If you fail to pay the compound fine, the employer will be brought to court.

In relation to that, the Labor Department would like to remind employers to always monitor employee welfare affairs in line with the requirements of the Employment Order, 2009 such as paying overtime wages to employees and not making unauthorized deductions.

Employers must also set working hours in accordance with the Employment Order 2009 and grant permission for sick leave certified by a medical practitioner.
