The IU singer took legal action against more than 180 individuals involved in cyberbullying.
Through a statement made by its agency, EDAM Entertainment said that it has taken legal action since 2023.
EDAM is working with a law firm to gather evidence so that IU can file suit accordingly.
Among the criminal allegations made include threats, insults, defamation (including accusations of plagiarism), death threats, invasion of privacy, sexual harassment, distribution of obscene material and creation of false content.
To date, a total of 180 individuals have been identified as defendants and one suspect is believed to be a classmate of IU’s in high school.
“They were found to be continuously harassing the singer and we had to take legal action,” according to EDAM.
In the meantime, the singer’s agency also listed online communities monitored including Nate Pann, Namuwiki, TheQoo, DC Inside (Drama Gallery/Male Celebrity Gallery), SoulDresser, Generasi Wanita, Ygosu, Instiz, Ilgan Best and MLB Park.
He also explained in the statement that they are worried if the problem of cyber bullying experienced by IU and her fans continues as a result of defamation being thrown in online content.
“We will continue to act more decisively. It is time to stop the cyber bullying activities done through social media platforms,” he said.
For info, the netizen who was sued by IU failed to appear at the first hearing for the damages claim held at the Seoul Central District Court, South Korea.
