WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A device that detects natural gas and carbon monoxide is being recalled. The Consumer Product Safety Commission says it can go into sleep mode after a short alert and then fail to warn people.
DeNova Detect Brand Combination Natural Gas and Carbon Monoxide Alarms were sold at Lowe’s, Amazon.com, and DeNovaDetect.com from last December through July.
The CPSC says that after the alarm alerts people to the presence of natural gas or carbon monoxide, it can go into sleep mode when the alert lasts less than four minutes.
While asleep, “it can fail to detect and alert consumers to a new incidence of natural gas or carbon monoxide, posing a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning,” the CPSC said.
The front of the alarm is printed with the product name DeNova Detect, Natural Gas + Carbon Monoxide.
The recall involves alarms with model number DD622NCV. The model number is on the top side of the alarm, and the serial number is on the right side.
The alarms cost between $90 and $102. The company says the alarm is 100% effective at first.
“The combination Natural Gas and Carbon Monoxide alarm model DD622NCV will detect Natural Gas and Carbon Monoxide leaks that reach the alarm thresholds 100% of the time, therefore the user is always initially protected,” DeNova Detect said.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission says to keep using the alarm until the company sends you a replacement.
Customers with the alarm should register online at www.denovadetect.com/safetynotice-dd622 to receive a prepaid shipping package and replacement alarm. After getting the replacement, people should return the recalled alarm in the prepaid shipping package.
