Salina airport gets $8.8M to expand, remodel

SALINA, Kan. (KSNW) — Salina Regional Airport is expanding. The Salina Airport Authority received an $8.8 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration.

The expansion and remodel will add a second loading gate, a new TSA screening, a waiting room, and a baggage claim area.

Airport Executive Director Pieter Miller says the changes are necessary because an FAA study predicts more passengers will fly out of Salina over the next five to ten years.

“We have a very robust aircraft or airport airline marketing program, and we have seen constant growth over the last five years for enplanements,” he said. “As we do that, we’re also working on adding more routes to the airline as they fly out of here.”

Currently, Salina has two daily flights—one to Chicago and the other to Denver. They are working on adding a third to Houston.

Construction on the expansion is expected to begin Feb. 1
