Police seize motorcycles, vehicles for violating restriction order

The Ondo State Police Command on Saturday impounded several motorcycles and vehicles during the state governorship election, enforcing restrictions designed to ensure a peaceful voting process.

The exercise, which was strictly monitored across the state, saw violators apprehended at various checkpoints, particularly within the Akure metropolis.

Some offenders, intercepted along Oyemekun Road near ‘A’ Division in Akure, had their motorcycles and vehicles seized by armed police operatives, who dismissed the various excuses offered by the violators.

Meanwhile, a man in Igoba, near Ado Garage, Akure, identified simply as Dejo, told PUNCH Online that he went to vote at Champion Junction Akure.

Dejo, who added that he was arrested while returning home, said that despite showing his voter’s card to the police, they still impounded his motorcycle.

“My motorcycle has been impounded in the last four hours. I came from Igoba to vote at Champion Junction. I showed them my voter’s card, yet the police wouldn’t allow me to go on my motorcycle.

“More than 60 motorcycles and 10 vehicles are being impounded here. You can count them. Help me beg them,” Dejo said

Commenting on the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Funmi Odunlami, told our correspondent that the violators disregarded the restriction order.

“Those people you observed contravened the restriction order, and the right thing was done by the operatives that impounded those vehicles and motorcycles.

“The restriction was announced earlier. It will only be for the period of restriction,” she said.
