ISTANBUL, NOV 17 – Thousands of protesters gathered in Stockholm yesterday to protest Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, and to criticize Western governments for supplying weapons to Israel despite civilian casualties.
According to the Agency Anatoliathe rally held in the Odenplan area was organized by several civil society groups and attended by 2,000 participants.
Demonstrators expressed solidarity with Palestine and Lebanon in addition to criticizing Western countries for complicity in Israel’s actions.
Karl Kjellin, a Swedish activist accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza and criticized Western leaders for continuing to supply arms.
Arguing that both major political parties in the United States (US) support Israel, Kjellin told Anatolia that nothing will change after the US election.
He said Israel’s actions in the region will continue as the US ensures the continuation of arms shipments to Israel.
Demonstrators also gathered outside the German Embassy in Dublin to express support for Palestine and condemn the increased pressure on pro-Palestinian groups in Germany.
They criticized Germany’s support for Israel’s policies, claiming they violated basic rights and restricted freedom of expression.
Jews for Palestine Ireland secretary Jacob Woolf urged the Irish government to press Germany to ensure that peaceful protest remains a protected right.
Another protest was also held in Istanbul yesterday to “break the silence on the massacre by Israel in Gaza.”
Demonstrators marched carrying Turkish and Palestinian flags as well as chanting slogans against Israel and the US while using drums, bells and whistles to attract attention.
Israel has continued its brutal attack on Gaza since October 7, 2023. The attack has claimed nearly 43,800 lives and made the territory almost uninhabitable. – Named
