Singapore has offered to host the 2030 APEC Summit

SINGAPORE, NOV 17 – Singapore has offered to host the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in 2030, reports The Straits Times (ST).

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said this is one of the ways the country will contribute to ensure more inclusive growth, against a backdrop of growing geopolitical competition and weakening support for free trade.

Wong, who is also Finance Minister told reporters at the end of this year’s summit in Peru that Singapore sees APEC as a valuable platform and will play its part to support the grouping in various ways, including hosting the APEC summit.

Singapore is among the 12 founding members of APEC which was established in 1989. It last held the position of APEC Chairman in 2009.
