BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, NOV 19 – A total of 19 Year 9 and 10 students from Katok Secondary School (SMK), along with student committee members of the Student Representative Council (MPP) and Peer Counselors (PRS) participated in the Mental Health Issues program which took place at the school recently.

The program organized by former participants of the 47th Southeast Asia and Japan Youth Ship Program (SSEAYP47), with the support of Brunei Darussalam International SSEAYP (BERSATU) in conjunction with Action Day 2024, was held to address growing concerns about youth mental health.

Titled program Mental Health Issues: Reducing Student Stress This is the second series held following the success of the first series program last June which featured a mental health forum with support from local mental health professionals at Menglait Secondary School.

Present at the event was the Senior Administrator of SMK, Dayang Norhadzrena binti Johari, accompanied by the SSEAYP47 National Leader, Hajah Siti Shamsiah binti Haji Sajalim who then delivered the opening speech.

The second series of the program features a variety of activities designed to raise awareness of the importance of mental health, focus on coping mechanisms for stress and anxiety, and provide practical tools for long-term mental well-being.

In addition, there are also activities held including advice on managing exam stress, choosing the right friends, and healing through creative expression methods such as art.

The group hopes the project will equip youth with the resilience they need to thrive academically and personally, helping them build a foundation for mental well-being and long-term success.
