Barcelona reject Arsenal’s €90m Raphinha bid, demand €100m

Barcelona have reportedly rejected Arsenal’s €90 million offer for Brazilian winger Raphinha, maintaining that they would only consider a transfer for a nine-figure sum.

The 27-year-old, who has been in exceptional form this season, is seen as an irreplaceable asset by the Catalan giants.

Raphinha has had an outstanding campaign, contributing 12 goals and 10 assists in just 17 appearances. His performances have cemented his status as a key player under manager Hansi Flick, who has even entrusted him with the captaincy.

Arsenal, who previously attempted to sign Raphinha from Leeds United in 2022 before his move to Barcelona, have renewed their interest. However, their initial €90 million offer was swiftly rejected.

According to the Spanish outlet Fichajes, Barcelona have made it clear they will not consider offers below €100 million for their star winger.

“His ability to adapt to different attacking roles has made him an essential asset for Barcelona, which seems unwilling to part with one of its top talents for less than €100 million,” the outlet reported.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly eager to add Raphinha to his squad, valuing the Brazilian’s dynamism and creativity.

“Raphinha’s ability to operate on either flank fits perfectly into Arteta’s attacking philosophy,” Football Transfer noted.

However, Arsenal face a dilemma due to their transfer strategy, which typically focuses on younger players or more affordable options for those over 27. Recent signings like Leandro Trossard and Jorginho have come at far lower costs than the figures being discussed for Raphinha.

Additionally, doubts remain about whether Arsenal would be willing to break the bank for a player who turns 28 next month.

The club’s lack of a sporting director at present adds further uncertainty, although PSG’s highly regarded Luis Campos is reportedly being considered for the role.

Meanwhile, reports in Spain suggest Barcelona could be persuaded to part with Raphinha for an astronomical fee, potentially using the funds to pursue long-term target Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao. For now, however, Barcelona are adamant about retaining their in-form captain.
