IOLA, Kan. (KSNW) — A woman is dead after a crash in Allen County.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says it happened shortly before 8 p.m. Monday on U.S. Highway 169 between Iola and Humboldt.
Melany June Felt, 54, was southbound on U.S. 169 when she crossed the center line and into the path of a northbound semi.
The semi-driver swerved onto the shoulder to avoid the crash, but Felt’s pickup truck still struck the Freightliner. The semi ended off the roadway in the ditch while Felt’s vehicle stopped in the road.
Felt, from Blue Mound, Kansas, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi, a 53-year-old man, received a “possible injury (complaint of pain).”
