The weather should be “calmer” this Friday that this Thursdayaccording to Météo France. The meteorological organization currently maintains 31 departments on orange vigilance for the day of Friday, 29 for snow and ice and two (Haute-Corse and Corse-du-Sud) for violent winds. These snow and ice alerts concern the northern half of the country, in a strip stretching from the English Channel to the Haut-Rhin. Storm Caetano “positioned over the Pays de la Loire at 4 p.m.” will continue “to progress towards the east” of the country “throughout the evening”.
For Friday, the cold will continue in the north of the country, according to Météo France. For example, it will be -1°C in Chaumont (Haute-Marne) or in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin) this Friday morning. Temperatures should not exceed 2°C in Paris either, reaching 4°C in the afternoon.
From a general point of view, The Weather Channel explains that “sleet of snow” will occur north of the Loire “with a cold wind”. The ground could also be icy. “After the passage of the Caetano depression, the cold engulfed a major part of the country, but calm returned. However, a few showers will circulate over the northwest quarter in unstable air between Normandy and Île-de-France. Elsewhere, clearings are returning, particularly in the south,” explains La Chaîne Météo in more detail.
According to Météo France, “we expect at most 3 to 10 cm of snow at the end of the night and morning in Normandy”. According to the meteorological organization, “snow showers are still present during the day, but in less quantity than the day before from Brittany to Normandy and as far as Grand Est”.
The wind gusts will continue “up to 80 to 100 km/h, or even more than 130 km/h” in Corsica in the “morning so as not to exceed 60 to 80 km/h during the day”. “Across the Mediterranean arc, drier and sunny weather returns in the morning, but the tramontane and the mistral blow up to 80 to 90 km/h in the morning, before weakening in the afternoon. »
Temperatures below normal
For Friday afternoon, La Chaîne Météo forecasts “sleers” which “continue over the northwest quarter in a wintry atmosphere with cold temperatures for the season (between 3 and 4°C below normal)”. “In the south, the weather remains dry with nice sunny spells, except on the Aquitaine coast with a few clouds carrying showers. In the Mediterranean, the atmosphere is spring-like with sunshine and softness,” adds La Chaîne Météo.
In terms of temperatures, these will “oscillate between only 1°C at the best of the day in Strasbourg, compared to 15°C in Nice and Ajaccio under a clear sun”. It will be 4°C maximum in the Paris region and “no more than 1 to 4 degrees from the Grand-Est to Burgundy-Franche-Comté”, according to Météo France.
In the evening, calm should spread across the entire territory, but the cold will persist.
