Traffic ticket email is a scam, police say

GARDEN CITY, Kan. (KSNW) — If you get an email saying you have been cited with a traffic violation and must pay the ticket within 72 hours or face consequences, police say don’t fall for it.

The Garden City Police Department said it has received reports from citizens who received the suspicious emails. It says the emails are a scam.

Police say that is not how a traffic ticket is issued.

“That would be issued directly by an Officer, and all dealings with traffic citations are handled in open court, not email,” GCPD posted on social media on Thursday. “Please do NOT give out your personal or financial information.”

Garden City residents who think they were scammed should call police at 620-276-1300.
