GENEVA, NOV 22 – The United Nations (UN) Human Rights Office yesterday expressed its full support for the efforts of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in pursuing accountability, after the tribunal issued arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the former Minister of Defense. , Yoav Gallant regarding their actions in the Gaza war.
“We respect the independence and competence of the International Criminal Court under the Rome Statute, across all situations and cases within its jurisdiction,” spokesman Jeremy Laurence told the Agency. Anatolia (AA) in a written statement.
“We fully support his efforts to pursue accountability for the most serious international crimes,” he added.
“States parties to the Rome Statute have an obligation to respect and implement the Court’s decisions, and we expect them to act in accordance with this obligation,” said Laurance.
Pretrial Chamber 1 of the Hague Court stated that they had “issued arrest warrants for two individuals, Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant, for crimes against humanity and war crimes committed from October 8, 2023 to May 20, 2024.”
Regarding their criminal charges, the court said it, “found reasonable grounds,” to believe that Netanyahu and Gallant were criminally responsible for, “the war crime of hunger as a method of warfare; and crimes against humanity killing, torture and other inhumane acts.”
