Wichita residents step up to help others this Thanksgiving

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Wichita groups are stepping up to make sure everyone has what they need ahead of Thanksgiving.

On Friday morning, Wichita Public School students helped support the United Methodist Open Door Turkey Drive at Wichita’s Water Walk. The event showcased bands, mascots, and floats to collect turkeys, side items, and money. Monetary donations can also be dropped off at the Open Door Community Food Ministry building, 2130 E. 21st. N., or made on the organization’s website.

If people need assistance, holiday turkey boxes will be available for pick-up Monday through Wednesday, Nov. 25-Nov. 27, between 9 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. and 1 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. You must have a valid ID for all household members, proof of address, and verification of income for the household must be 130% of poverty level. On Saturday, from 6:30 a.m. to noon, Central Community Church, 6100 W. Maple St., Wichita, will give away frozen turkeys and all the fixings you need to feed four to six people. The event will last until the food is gone.

Bread of Life also has a Thanksgiving meal dinner giveaway on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is at 1301 E. Galena St.
