Val-de-Marne: a man pulls out a gun and threatens the police, who fire six shots

The police fired six times to neutralize an armed man during the night from Friday to Saturday, in Saint-Mandé (Val-de-Marne). Seriously injured in the right arm, sternum and stomach, he was transported to the Henri-Mondor hospital in Créteil, where he was to be operated on. At this time, the progress of his state of health is not yet known.

It’s 1:45 a.m. at Place Charles-Digeon, near the Saint-Mandé town hall and of the Bois de Vincenneswhen a man goes to the municipal police station to ask for help. He explains that a worrying individual follows him from the subway entrance after a chance exchange of glances. And that he was threatened with death on several occasions by the latter. Municipal agents call on their colleagues from the anti-crime squad to carry out the arrest.

Quickly, a crew from Vincennes arrived on site and noticed that the suspect was trying to flee. “Then the man turned around before showing a handgun and pointing it at a municipal police officer,” explains a source close to the case.

The three BAC officials then opened fire six times and hit their target. Emergency services quickly reached them and treated the injured man before transporting him to hospital.

Saint Mandé on November 22. During the first findings, investigators got their hands on a 9mm caliber Sig Sauer P320 pistol and a kitchen knife.

The Créteil public prosecutor’s office has opened two investigations. A first on an attempted murder of law enforcement officers entrusted to the Val-de-Marne departmental judicial police service (SDPJ 94). And a second carried out by the general inspectorate of the national police (IGPN) which will have to determine whether the conditions for self-defense are met.

During the first findings, investigators got their hands on a 9 mm caliber SIG Sauer P320 pistol and a kitchen knife. Two cartridges of the same caliber, not fired, were discovered nearby.

This 22-year-old man is unknown to the intelligence services for activities linked to terrorism or politics. The victim of the threats filed a complaint. The video files from the officials’ pedestrian cameras will be analyzed and the rest of the investigations will have to determine whether this person is responsible for these acts. For now, his motivations remain a mystery.
