Concealed weapon, suspected marijuana recovered during traffic stop: Westlake Police Blotter

WESTLAKE, Ohio –

Concealed weapon: I-90

Officers at 10:15 p.m. on Nov. 12 stopped a vehicle on I-90 westbound near the Avon border for a speeding violation and noticed signs of drug use in the vehicle.

An investigation led to officers recovering a loaded firearm and several small bags of suspected marijuana. The 19-year-old male Cleveland Heights driver was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon and traffic violations.

Public indecency: Crocker Road

A DoubleTree hotel employee at 9 p.m. on Nov. 11 reported to Westlake police that a guest requested extra towels for his room and then answered the door nude when an employee delivered them.

The man proceeded to call the front desk additional times for more towels. When the manager responded to the room with security guards, the man answered the door while masturbating, according to a police department press release. He slammed the door shut after seeing the guards. He was told to leave, and he did so before police officers were called.

After an investigation, warrants were obtained for a 57-year-old Amherst man charged with public indecency. Officers noted that he had two previous convictions for the same offense.

Gun stolen: Clark Parkway

A resident at 4:40 p.m. on Nov. 14 reported that their unlocked vehicle had been entered sometime in the past two days and a loaded handgun was now missing. The gun was entered in police databases as being stolen.

Impersonating a police officer: Sperry Drive

A WestSpring Inn employee at 6 p.m. on Nov. 14 reported that an unruly guest, previously asked to leave the property, was creating a disturbance.

The man was knocking on hotel guests’ doors and yelling at employees.

Officers learned the man yelled through at least one door that he was a Westlake police officer and ordered the guests to “open up.” He claimed that he was looking for a cigarette lighter. The 51-year-old man, who formerly listed a Westlake address, was charged with impersonating a police officer.
