MEDINA, Ohio – The holidays have officially kicked off in Historic Medina as families and friend groups milled around the square shopping at local businesses, making s’mores around a campfire and admiring the big festive tree on the gazebo.
Ashley Wilson brought her friend, Chris Horn, to check out the festivities including live performers and street vendors late Saturday afternoon.
“I grew up in Medina so I have been coming to the Candlelight Walk for a long time, but this is his first time,” Wilson said. “I’m excited for the parade tonight and also the fireworks.”
“We just got here, but it seems pretty nice,” Horn said. “I’ll have to check things out and see what my favorite things are.”
Emery and Vivian Farrell attend the event each year with their family.
“Our favorite thing is the big tree,” the sisters said.
“I really just enjoy getting to bring my son each year,” Alexis Ameer said.
As an introduction to their upcoming production of A Christmas Carol, cast members from Medina County Show Biz walked through the square and rode in the parade in full costume. They also performed some songs on the steps of the courthouse during the Candlelight Walk.
“We have all of the ghosts here and Mr. Scrooge will be on one of the parade floats,” said Sue Roach from Medina County Show Biz.
Roach said the theater group will perform A Christmas Carol during the first two weekends of December at their theater at 144 N. Broadway Street.
Performances will be Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets will be on sale starting Nov. 25 at Buehler’s. Admission is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and students and $10 for children under 12.
“The play is going to be fantastic,” Roach said. “It will be dark but a lot of fun.”
Roach added that anyone who makes a purchase on the square will get $5 off their ticket price if they bring their receipt to the performance.
