JAKARTA, NOV 24 – Indonesia and Malaysia, the two main countries of Southeast Asia, play an important role in gaining global support for Palestine, according to Professor Sudarnoto Abdul Hakim from Jakarta State Islamic University Syarif Hidayatullah.
As a respected member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), he said both countries have consistently shown their support for Palestine through diplomatic and humanitarian efforts.
Sudarnoto, who is also the Head of Foreign Relations and International Cooperation of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) recently visited a Palestinian refugee shelter in Amman, Jordan.
He shared that the Palestinian refugees expressed deep gratitude to Indonesia and Malaysia for their unwavering support.
In Malaysia, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim emerged as a vocal supporter of the rights of the Palestinian people on the international stage. Anwar has called for the official recognition of Palestine as a sovereign state and the removal of Israel from the United Nations (UN).
At high-level international meetings such as the G20 Summit in Brazil and the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Peru, Malaysia under Anwar’s leadership has supported UN reform and emphasized Israel’s continued actions against the Palestinian people.
Anwar also raised the issue of Palestine at the Extraordinary Arab and Islamic Summit in Riyadh, calling for stronger international action against Israel’s military actions in Palestine.
Likewise, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has used his platform at the G20 Summit to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, as well as in Ukraine. – Named
