ISLAMABAD, 24 NOV – Pakistan reported three new cases of polio today, bringing the total number of cases in the country this year to 55, according to an official statement.
The Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication at the National Institute of Health confirmed the detection Wild Poliovirus Type 1 (WPV1) in three districts, namely Dera Ismail Khan, Zhob and Jaffarabad.
Dera Ismail Khan district located in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has recorded six cases of polio so far in 2024. Meanwhile, Zhob and Jaffarabad in the southwestern province have reported three and two cases respectively, according to the statement.
The Pakistan Polio Program informed that several mass vaccination campaigns have been conducted since January 2024, with the vaccine being given directly to children from house to house. – Xinhua
