Lake County man gets life in prison for killing girlfriend

PAINESVILLE, Ohio — A Concord Township man was sentenced Friday to life in prison after he pleaded guilty to the murder of his girlfriend.

Lake County Common Pleas Court records show Brian Doerner, 53, will be eligible for parole after serving 30 years of his sentence. Doerner pleaded guilty on Oct. 24 to one count of aggravated murder. Several other charges, including another charge of aggravated murder, murder and kidnapping, were dismissed as part of a plea deal.

Deputies with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office were called to the 7200 block of Lochness Drive in Concord Township on April 16. They found the victim, 47-year-old Debra Moore, in an upstairs bedroom. Moore reportedly died of strangulation and suffocation.

The sheriff’s office says Doerner was found in the garage of the residence, bleeding excessively from self-inflicted wounds. The sheriff’s office says Doerner and Moore lived together in the residence.
